Koh Chang is one of the most rewarding escapes on the eastern coast, but getting there from Pattaya has always been the awkward part of the holiday.
Do it the piecemeal way and the day disappears into logistics. You would take a minibus east towards Trat, change vehicles somewhere along the coast, buy a passenger ferry ticket at the pier, cross without your luggage in hand, then hunt for a shared songthaew to reach whichever beach your resort sits on. Every leg is a fresh negotiation, and each handover is a chance for something to go wrong with tired children or heavy cases in tow.
A private car flattens all of that into a single, calm journey. One vehicle collects you from your Pattaya hotel, jomtien condo or wherever you happen to be staying, and the same driver stays with you the whole way — including onto the boat. Because the vehicle rolls straight onto the car ferry, you do not step out at the pier, drag bags across a gangway or wait for the next passenger sailing. You cross sitting comfortably in the car you started in, and drive off the other side towards your resort.
The price you see is genuinely the price you pay. The ferry ticket for the vehicle, the fuel, the tolls and the driver are all inside the fixed fare you agree before departure. There is no top-up demanded at the pier and no meter creeping upward in traffic — a real relief on a route this long, where a metered ride could swing wildly.

How much is a taxi from Pattaya to Koh Chang?
A single fixed fare per vehicle with the car ferry already included: Taxi 3,500 THB, Sedan 3,600 THB, Camry 3,700 THB, Innova 4,000 THB, Fortuner 4,000 THB and Minivan 4,200 THB. There is nothing to add at the pier — the ferry crossing is inside the quote you agree before you travel.
Does the price really include the car ferry to Koh Chang?
Yes. Your driver buys the vehicle ferry ticket at Ao Thammachat pier and drives the car straight onto the boat, so you stay in your seat the whole way across. You never queue for tickets, work out sailing times or pay anything extra for the crossing.
How long does the journey take?
Plan for around four and a half hours in total for the roughly 320 km run, including the short ferry hop to the island. The exact time depends on the ferry schedule when you arrive and on traffic leaving the Eastern Seaboard, so we build a comfortable buffer into every booking.
Is there any public transport from Pattaya to Koh Chang?
Not directly. The usual alternative is a minibus to Ban Phe or Trat, a change of vehicle, then a passenger ferry and finally a songthaew on the island. A private car removes all of those transfers — one vehicle, one price, door to resort.
Can you take us to any beach or resort on Koh Chang?
Yes. Once the ferry lands the same driver continues to your resort, whether you are staying at White Sand, Klong Prao, Kai Bae, Lonely Beach or further south towards Bang Bao. Give us the resort name when you book and we drop you at reception.
Do we pay before or after the trip?
There is no deposit for a standard booking. Pay the driver in cash on arrival, or settle ahead by secure card link if you prefer. The fare you confirm on WhatsApp is the fare you pay — ferry, fuel and tolls all in.
